A STOOL SOFTENER treats constipation by softening the stool. A BULK FORMING LAXATIVE softens the stool by increaseing it's water content. A LAXATIVE treats constipation by increasing the activity of the bowel.

STOOL SOFTENER products available over the counter will contain 1 or more of the following ingredients:
Docusate sodium (Colace, DSS)
Docusate calcium(Sulfolax)
BULK FORMING LAXATIVE products available over the counter will contain 1 or more of the following ingredients:
Psyllium(Metamucil, Fiberall, Genfiber)
Methylcellulose(Citrucel)
LAXATIVE products available over the counter will contain 1 or more of the following ingredients:
Sennoside (Ex-lax, Senekot)
Bisacodyl (Dulcolax, Correctol, Bisalax)
Polyethylene Glycol (Miralax)
