Cough Products
Overview: Cough products can help stop coughing, such as a cough supressant, or help cough out phlegm, an expectorant. Some products contain both a cough supressant and an expecotrant.
A COUGH SUPRESSANT stops coughing that won’t stop by affecting the cough center in the brain.
A COUGH EXPECTORANT thins fluids in the lungs and aids in removing phlegm from the body by coughing.

COUGH SUPRESSANT products available over the counter will contain 1 or more of the following ingredients:
Dextromethorphan (Robitussin DM)
Codeine – this product is a controlled substance in Iowa and has rules and regulations for purchase from a pharmacy.
COUGH EXPECTORANT products available over the counter will contain 1 or more of the following ingredients:
Guaifenesin (Mucinex, Robitussin)
