Mumps Information

July 03, 2008

There have been diagnosed cases of mumps on ISU's campus within the past month. Mumps requires contact with infected mucus or droplets from the throat or nose of an infected person, which usually means that individuals have very close (3 feet or less) contact with an infected person.

If you have been exposed to someone known to have mumps, you will be contacted by the Department of Public Health.

The overwhelming majority of ISU students are vaccinated against mumps, as it is part of the MMR vaccines given during childhood. If you would like more information, click the link below to the Iowa Department of Public Health, or contact the Thielen Student Health Center to speak to the Resource Nurse.
