H1N1 Vaccination Clinics Scheduled

October 09, 2009

Story County Public Health received the first shipments of the H1N1 vaccine and has announced public H1N1 vaccination clinics through November. Until additional shipments are received, the first doses will be given only to members of the following priority groups:

• Pregnant women.
• People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.
• Health care and emergency medical services personnel.
• Persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old.
• People ages 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.

Once providers meet the demand for vaccine among persons in these initial target groups, vaccination is recommended for all persons 6 months through 64 years of age. Current studies indicate that the risk for infection among persons age 65 or older is less than the risk for younger age groups. However, once vaccine demand among younger age groups has been met, Story County Public Health will offer vaccination to people 65 or older. The vaccine will be provided free of charge.
