Smoking Cessation Programs

The Student Health Center Wellness Program offers two basic types of direct support for individuals who are trying to stop smoking. Whichever program you select, you will receive services that are tailored to your individual needs. Both programs take a collaborative, problem-solving approach to helping you make progress toward kicking the habit.

Individual Sessions are available for students and their spouses/domestic partners, and can be used in conjunction with a group, or on its own as a source for support, suggestions and strategic planning. Support services are free of charge. For more information on our Individual Smoking Cessation program, please contact the office of Prevention, Education and Outreach at 515.294-1868, or stop by and inquire in room 2015 of the Thielen Student Health Center (the Wellness Center).

Cessation Support Groups are 8-week group programs with a shared quit day for participants on the 4th meeting. Relaxation, stress management and weight control components are included in the program. There is one low fee of $20, of which $10 is refundable if all sessions are attended. The 8-week program is open to ISU students, faculty, staff, and the Ames community. The groups will be offered if there is enough expressed interest. To inquire further, or to express interest in being a participant in a group, you may call us at 515.294-1868 or stop by our offices in the Wellness Center, on the second floor of the Thielen Student Health Center.
